What we do and what your insurer decides
We are a roofing contractor, not an insurance adjuster. Our job is to look at the roof, record what we see with photos and written notes, and explain what work it needs. Your insurance company decides what is covered under your policy. We do not promise that a claim will be approved, and we do not offer to absorb or waive a deductible. If someone at your door makes those promises, that is a reason for caution.
What we can do is make the construction side clear. You get a written observation of the damage and a written scope for the work. You can share both with your insurer and ask what else it needs. You can also get an estimate and understand the work while coverage is still being reviewed.
Storm damage on Ashburn roofs
Ashburn's neighborhoods were largely built in the same few decades, so many streets have roofs of similar age and exposure. After a severe storm, homeowners often see crews appear on several houses at once. That is normal, but it also brings out out-of-area contractors. Ask any company for its Virginia license number and where it is based. Ours is DPOR #2705187519, and Kenney Construction is based in Herndon, close enough to come back after the job is done.
Wind tends to lift shingles along ridges, rakes and eaves first. Falling limbs can crack shingles or puncture decking, particularly on lots with mature trees near the house. Interior signs like a new ceiling stain or a damp spot in the attic are worth recording with a date, even if you cannot see anything from outside.
Repair or replacement after a storm
Storm damage does not automatically mean a new roof. If damage is limited to one slope and the rest of the roof is in good condition, a repair can be the right answer. Replacement is considered when damage is widespread, when the existing roof cannot be restored reliably, or when the inspection finds roof-wide problems that make isolated work a poor fit. We will tie the recommendation to what we actually observed.
If the roof does need replacement, the same written-scope approach applies as on any other roof replacement: tear-off, decking repair where needed, the new roofing system, a ventilation review, and cleanup. If your HOA requires approval for a color or material change, factor that into the schedule.

The photos above are from a re-roofing project in Reston, not Ashburn. They show what a roof deck looks like once the old shingles are off, which is the point where hidden damage gets documented.

Next steps
Before you call
Will my insurance pay for a new roof?▸
Only your insurer can answer that, under the terms of your policy. Roofing Roughnecks documents the damage and writes the construction scope; coverage decisions stay with the insurance company.
Can you help document storm damage for my claim?▸
Yes. The service includes damage assessment and documentation to support an insurance claim, with photographs and written observations you can share with your insurer.
Should I go on the roof to look for damage?▸
No. Photograph what you can see from the ground and from inside the house, and leave roof-level inspection to a professional.
What does storm-related roofing typically cost?▸
The Roofing Roughnecks cost guide lists $3,000–$20,000 as a typical Northern Virginia reference range for storm-related assessment and repair or replacement. The actual scope depends on the damage.
